Cowboy Bebop is the tale of a futuristic maverick, Spike Spiegel, a space cowboy and his band of partners (Jet Black, Faye Valentine, Edward, and Ein the dog), as they race across the galaxy on daring adventures. They are Bounty Hunters struggling to survive in a world that is a strange combination of past, present, and future. In 2071, an accident near the moon causes meteors to fall daily. As a result, humans have almost completely abandoned Earth. Now the galaxy has been colonized by humans and now criminals terrorize one solar system at a time. Two bounty hunters have teamed up together to clean up the criminals and earn some large sums of cash. Spike is a former gang member, and Jet is an ex-cop who "bites and never lets go". While capable enough at capturing the occasional bounty, capturing them without a lot of property damage to boot might prove to be a bit of a problem. Their quests for the next bounty introduces them to new friends and old enemies.
Spike Spiegel Gender: Male Age: 27 Height: 185 cm Birthday: June 26, 2044 Birthplace: Mars Blood type: O Occupation: Bounty Hunter Ship: Swordfish II Weapon: Jericho 941 First Appearance: Session #1
Spike Spiegel is a laid back bounty hunter with a mysterious past and a questionable future. Spike's past is a mystery that gradually unfolds throughout the course of the series. In the beginning, very little is known about Spike. He worked for the Red Dragon Mafia on Mars, and three years ago faked his own death in order to escape the organization. Once out he ended up meeting with Jet Black, a former ISSP (a sort of interstellar police force) officer who quit the force after a double cross cost him his arm. Together they decided to skirt the edge of the law as bounty hunters.
Jet Black Gender: Male Age: 36 Height: 188cm Birthday: December 3, 2035 Birthplace: Ganymede Blood type: A Occupation: Bounty Hunter Ship: Hammerhead Weapon: Walther P99 First Appearance: Session #1
Jet Black was an agent with the ISSP; but he quit, disgusted with the corruption he found throught the interstellar police force. Jet now finds himself himself a bounty hunter alongside Spike and the rest of the crew of the Bebop, his beloved ship. Jet is a calm, thoughtful man, who maintains a cool head throughtout any ordeals. Jet often clashes with the headstrong Spike, even going so far as to banish him from the ship on more than one occasion, though never for long. Jet's past is nearly as mysterious as Spike's. The real reason he left the ISSP, as well as the origin of his prosthetic arm, remain unknown, even to Spike. As the captain of the Bebop, Jet is perhaps the closest thing the crew has to a leader.
Faye Valentine Gender: Female Age: 23 Height: 168 cm Birthday: August 14, 1994 Birthplace: Unknown Blood type: B Occupation: Bounty Hunter Ship: Red Tail Weapon: Austria 45 Automatic First Appearance: Session #3
The heroine of the series, Faye Valentine is beautiful, smart and deadly. Not to mention insane. Faye is one woman you don't want to cross. Faye's past is a mystery, even to her. It seems that while spending some time (54 years) in cryogenic suspension, an accident caused her to lose her memory. After she woke up, she couldn't explain to the doctors why she couldn't pay the enormous medical bill she accrued. On the run with a huge price (more like a bill) on her head, Faye discovered her calling as a bounty hunter. Now she hangs out on the Bebop, generally making life difficult for everybody while trying to pay back the creditors that track her every move.
Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky 4th (aka Ed) Gender: Female Age: 13 Height: 136 cm Birthday: January 1, 2058 Birthplace: Earth Blood type: AB Occupation: Hacker Ship: None Weapon: None First Appearance: Session #9
Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV, or Ed as she is more commonly known is the Bebop's resident hacker and computer expert. Ed lived underground in the technologically advanced society that remained on the Earth after the destruction caused during the "Gate Incident". Growing up as an orphan, Ed gave herself a name. Without any parental restraints in a land of technology, she quickly became a hacker. With her trusty custom laptop "Tomato," she became feared as the hacking genius "Radical Edward". Spike, Jet and Faye caught up with Ed while searching for the person drawing large pictures onto Earth's surface. Ed learned about Spike and company on the internet and decided to invite herself aboard the Bebop. Ed is prone to random bursts of gibberish, non-sensical songs and bizarre acts of flexibility. To the rest of the crew, Ed is almost a crazy pet. Although eccentric and bizarre, Ed always comes through in a pinch.
Ein Species: Welsh Corgi Gender: Male Length: 64 cm Height: 28 cm Weight: 9.8 kg Birthday: 2069 Home: Unknown Occupation: Data Dog/ Pet
On the outside, Ein is a normal male Welsh corgi. But on the inside, he is a "data dog", a superintelligent canine illegally developed by a shady corporation. To the right buyer, a dog of Eins abilities would command an astronomical price. Ein can do a variety of strange feats such as opening car doors via control panels, answering video phones, etc. Ein first joined up with Spike and his crew when he was rescued from profit-minded petnapper Abdul Hakim. Although Spike hates "kids and critters," he goes out of his way to save Ein from falling off a bridge. Once aboard the Bebop, Ein becomes a strange cross between a pet and a toy. Ein is slept on, doodled on, even forced to watch as Faye eats his dog food, not to mention generally being tortured. Most of the time Ein can be seen being commandeered by Ed.
Vicious Gender: Male Age: 27 Birthday: 2044 Birthplace: Unknown Blood type: Unknown Occupation: Member of the Red Dragons Mafia Ship: None Weapon: Long Katana Blade First Appearance: Session #5
Vicious is a leading figure in the Red Dragon crime syndicate. One of the secrets of his success is his trademark katana, the Japanese sword he refuses to give up, not even when he was posted to the Titan front in the military. He loves edged weapons, and has used them to slice his way to the top of the mafia. He and Spike served together in the military and the mafia, but their friendship ended over a woman called Julia, and he is still out for revenge. He is believed to have had some involvement in the "accident" that befell Spike three years ago. He is a hard-line criminal, sickened by the syndicates moderate approach. Ultimately, Vicious will make a bid for power, fighting the leaders of his own syndicate. He trusts nobody but uses everyone.
Julia Gender: Female Age: 27 Birthday: Unknown Birthplace: Unknown Blood type: Unknown Occupation: Unknown Ship: None Weapon: None First Appearance: Session #5
Probably the biggest mystery in the series is Julia. Only two things are known about her: she helped Spike after his accident three years ago; and a year later, she was seen on Callisto. Believed to be an old flame of Spikes, she appears to be on the run from other members of the syndicate, especially Vicious. |
